Fiona Chaplin is a Sydney-based visual artist who grew up in England and lived in New York for five years and Spain for two. Her travels and exposure to diverse cultures, landscapes, cityscapes and galleries have deeply influenced her artistic perspective and practice.
After a career in commercial architectural and interior design mangement, Fiona turned her focus to art. Thirteen years ago she set up a studio at One+2 Artist Studios, Rozelle and began exhibiting locally. Fiona’s artistic education includes courses at the National Art School and with leading practitioners, developing her practice across drawing, painting, mixed media, printmaking and life drawing.
Fiona is drawn to the excitement and freedom of being outdoors responding intuitively to her surroundings through drawing in her sketchbooks. Whether in nature or the city her work captures the essence of place through expressive abstract mark-making. Finished works are developed in her studio in paint or mixed media.
